Later that day, Saiya had left home without a note, knowing she was a princess and would have guards after her, but she did not care. She had abandoned her princess attire, for a simpler blue short kimono, with a pair of white puffy pants. She was nearly exhausted and ready to collapse. Suddenly a figure appeared in front of her dressed in a simple brown, short kimono and gray pants. The figure said calmly, “Have a seat, young weary traveler.” Saiya, before even hesitating, collapsed onto the ground, grateful for an excuse to stop. The stranger sat down beside her. Curious of nature, Saiya asked her, “What is your name?” The person smiled and responded, “I am known as Ayase, who are you?” “I am know as Saiya,” she responded. “So why are you traveling around at so young?” asked Ayase. “I am on a quest to find my father!” remarked Saiya. “May we travel with you? A companion may prove invaluable at these present times,” said Ayase calmly. “We?” asked Saiya. Suddenly the little lizard on Ayase’s shoulder jumped to the ground, turned into a full size dragon and growled cheerfully, “yes, we.” Saiya was very amazed. The lizard transformed, then jumped back to Ayase’s shoulder. Saiya was happy to have a friend in her journey. They were flying through the air on Ayase’s dragon, which she soon learned was called Maiten. As they flew through the air, Saiya noticed a sparkling blue lake. Saiya yawned and said, “ Ayase, lets land…we should take a break form flying.” “Ok,” said Ayase, leading Maiten in lazy spirals towards the ground. Soon they had landed and Maiten was back on Ayase’s shoulder. As they walked, suddenly a figure appeared in front of them and slashed out wildly with his sword. Luckily, due to Saiya’s rather brief training in swordsmanship she managed to block the hit with her own ‘2 fanged’ sword as she called it. Quickly Ayase appeared behind him with a kunai held to his neck. Ayase growled quietly, “So…why did you attack us?” the ninja responded with a sigh, “kill me, my mission has failed.” Ayase responded by pushing the kunai slightly harder and growling, “tell me” He spoke calmly, “I was ordered to.” Ayase responded with shock, “why?!?” the ninja said calmly, “I’m forbidden to tell.” SLASH! Saiya appeared, dragging Ayase away from the ninja. Saiya barked, “no!” The ninja just stood there with a shocked expression and a sheared mask. “Hmpf.” Remarked Ayase. “I was only shearing the mask.” The ninja, looking shocked, mumbled, “I-I-I-why didn’t you kill me?” Saiya responded calmly and kindly, “We are not killers, we could not kill an innocent soul.”

The more they talked to the ninja, the more that they learned about him. He was an expert swordsman, trained in the way of the ninja. He knew no mercy, so what they had done seemed foreign to him. “So…. now that I have told you all there is to hear, shall you kill me now?” he asked in a cold, flat tone. “No!” responded Saiya and Ayase at the same time. “Why?” exclaimed the ninja. “Because we are not cruel.” They remarked. He sighed, and spoke in a low monotone, “Then would you like to travel with me back to my home village? There’s a chance your father could be there…” Saiya was astounded, how could she refuse?! “Of course!” she remarked. Ayase sighed, and thought to herself “this is going to be strange…” Soon they were flying though the air and Saiya looked back at the swordsman and had to yell though the wind to speak, “HEY, what is your name anyway?” He responded, yelling, “Ryu…-Ryu Habashi.” “Nice name,” laughed Saiya.

Soon they landed near a narrow river. Saiya yawned, looked around and scanned the landscape. “Hey guys, lets camp here for the night.” They were too tired to keep flying anyway. Soon they started setting up camp, Ryu getting wood, Ayase and Maiten lighting it, and Saiya getting water. Soon they collapsed onto the blankets they had set out, and ate their dinner of fish. They awoke the next morning to see Ryu twitching and pacing in a worried manner. Soon they were walking along a path and Ryu looked agitated and worried. Suddenly an indistinct figure appeared among the trees. Ryu looked up for a moment, and Saiya could have sworn she saw a trace o fear in the brave ninja’s eyes. The shadow disappeared and Ryu continued as though nothing had happened. Saiya was worried however, she walked over to Ryu and asked, “Ryu-san is there something wrong?” however Saiya knew Ryu would probably not answer, she had to ask. He answered coldly, “No Saiya-chan, nothing is wrong…” Soon they were at the valley of wolves. Saiya heard a growling behind her, and she turned around, putting her hand on the hilt of her ‘2 fanged’ blade. The wolf-human that she found herself face to face with growled, and surprisingly she understood, “What do you want here human?” Saiya responded, “We are only passing through, please do not harm us. Suddenly another wolf-human appeared in front of her, wielding a black 2 fanged blade. “Hmm… a human who can speak wolfish…?” Ayase and Ryu said nothing, just standing there looking appalled. Saiya looked at them, worried, “what?!? What is it?” Ayase spoke back calmly, “Saiya your 2 tailed demon allows you to speak ‘wolfish’.” “Wow!” exclaimed Saiya, with much surprise. The wolf –human moved forward, growling slightly, “come human.” Saiya responded with a question, “what is your name, human-wolf?” “I am known as Karinto.” Saiya nodded slightly, “I am known as Saiya.” The wolf human gave a curious growl, “Saiya…what an interesting name…” he nodded over his shoulder, “and my brother, Akuru is the one that greeted you silly humans earlier.” The one known as Akuru simply responded with a growl. Soon they were lead though crowds of wolfs and wolf-humans. Saiya looked at the 2 brothers, they dressed exactly the same, only a pair of white pants, the only difference between the 2 was that Akuru had short brown hair, as Karinto had medium white hair. Soon they found themselves in a warm cave with extremely good food. “ Anything better than berries…” thought Saiya. Ayase gave some of the fish to Maiten, who gulped it down without a second thought. Ryu ate silently, and then left. Saiya thanked Karinto for his kindness, then left, Ayase following.

Soon they were walking for a while when Saiya noticed an old looking wolf following them. Saiya looked at the wolf. She was curious why it had followed them. The wolf growled quietly, “I will help your on your quest, your father was a friend of mine.” The wolf gave a smile. Saiya asked, “what is your name, o’ old wolf, you must have a name to travel with us.” The wolf growled somewhat happily, “Seyen, Seyen is my name.” And then they started traveling yet again, now with yet another friend. Saiya acted kindhearted, but the truth was there was a deep worrying sadness in her heart. She had one fear, and that fear was if her friends found out she was a princess, and had palace guards after her they would probably desert her. She knew this sounded terrible, but that was the truth that lurked in her heart and terrorized her dreams. Ayase saw the look on her face, almost reading her mind and quietly reassured her, “don’t worry Saiya-chan, we, I would never desert you…well I dunno about Ryu, but I’ll never desert ya for sure!” Saiya gave a fake smile, because not even the words of a friend could silence the worry in her heart. Suddenly Ryu stopped in his tracks, looking around. He remarked quietly, “We are close.” Saiya was immediately worried at she saw the nervous look on Ryu’s face. Saiya poked him on the forehead, “Ryu! Stop being so weird…” Ryu sighed, and said nothing. Suddenly a figure appeared in the tree above them, she had yellow eyes, like a cat. The figure spoke in a quiet, growling, meow, “hehehe, do ya guys actually WANT to die?” Saiya responded quickly, “nope!” the figure laughed, “Hmm… spunky little wolf demon aren’t cha?” The cat girl stepped forward, holding a gleaming blade the color of fire, which had the sun glinting down its length, giving the impression that it was on fire. Saiya drew her ‘2 fanged’ sword and hoped it would yet again save her. The figure jumped forward, barely slashing Saiya’s arm, then heading for Ryu. She screamed, “today u die, Ryu Habashi!!!” Ryu quickly jumped away, but the look of fear on his face scared Saiya. Saiya yelled as the figure came up behind Ryu and raised her lava-red sword, preparing to attack. Ryu turned around very fast and blocked the hit with his own sword. Saiya watched in fear as the 2 blades, red and white clashed with multicolored sparks against each other. Quickly as the figure appeared, she faded leaving Ryu with nothing but a leg wound. Ayase walked over and used Maiten’s fire to heal Ryu’s leg. Saiya wrapped a cloth over her arm, then looked at Ryu and said in a tense voice, “Ryu…? Did you know that cat demon?” Ryu looked nervous as he mumbled, “no…” Saiya knew Ryu was lying, but she said nothing, letting Ryu keep any secrets he wanted to. Saiya sighed, and pressed the cloth harder to her arm. Cautiously Seyen approached her and put his muzzle to her shoulder in a reassuring way. Ayase was the first to break the silence that had settled over them. “Let us be off” she said in nervous tones. Soon they stood up, and set off yet again, not sure of what to come.

As they walked, they noticed someone following them. Saiya drew her blade, nervous that it could be the cat demon again, but it simply turned out to be the wolf-human, Akuru. He looked kind of nervous, as he growled quietly, “what was that big battle about? What happened? Why does the ninja guy look so nervous?” Ryu flushed as he heard the last part. Saiya responded with a laugh, “Akuru, have u been watching us the whole time?” Akuru blushed slightly, “perhaps not the whole time…” Saiya grinned, “Why are you following us?” Akuru blushed again and stuttered, “I-I d-d-dunno…” Saiya smiled and laughed, “ you are pretty funny Akuru-kun.” Akuru tilted his head to one side wolfishly, “how am I funny?” Saiya grinned, “I dunno, ya just are!”

As they walked, Ryu still seemed nervous and Ayase was watching him carefully, worried about his leg. Saiya yawned, saw a pretty river and walked over to it, examining the half hidden stones under the cool shallow water. “Lets stop here for tonight?” yawned Saiya. Ayase and Ryu nodded, as did Seyen and Akuru. As she helped out in camp, she looked around, glad to have such friends. Akuru was getting water from the stream, as was Saiya. The wolf-human paused for a moment to yawn, holding the heavy bucket of water, then fell headfirst into the stream. Saiya had to laugh before running over and helping him up, “Are you ok?” she laughed. He turned rather red and mumbled, “Yea I’m fine.” Saiya glanced at his hand, and noticed he held a stone. “What’s that?” asked Saiya, indicating to the stone. He looked at it, smiled and said, “Well the head dive into the river was kind of for a reason…” Saiya looked bewildered, “Why?” she asked. He grinned, “ Because I saw this really pretty rock, I thought u might like it…” he blushed. Saiya smiled, taking the pretty blue rock and looking it over, “Its beautiful.” She smiled. They woke up the nest morning, looking rather bored. Ryu looked around, suddenly surprised. “We camped closer to the village than I though.” He said. Saiya grinned, “this is Grayson!!! I’m going to a ninja village!” Ryu looked downcast, despite the wonderful situation. Akuru looked at Ryu and growled, “There is something wrong…” Ryu nodded, still looking rather downcast. Saiya looked at Ryu, then at Akuru and laughed, “how’d ya do that? I tried but he said nothing was wrong…!” Akuru just shrugged, grinning, “It’s a guy thing, guys understand each other, just like girls do.” “Eh…” said Saiya rather confused. Akuru laughed and smiled, “Eh, your weird Saiya chan.” Saiya grinned, “Yes, that I am.” As they walked Akuru, smiled and blushed a lot, he seemed to be watching over Saiya mostly. Once when a spider crawled across their path, Saiya freaked out (Saiya dislikes spider) Akuru killed the spider easily, and Saiya hugged him, he turned very red and Saiya laughed, “Akuru-kun your so strange.” He grinned. Ayase had her head turned to the sky, watching a lone hawk circle overhead, while Ryu simply walked along looking him normal expressionless self. One day they had seen a shadow hop across the treetops once, then the next day a hawk landed on Ryu’s shoulder with a scroll clasped in it’s beak. Ryu took the scroll out of the creature’s beak and stroked it, “it’s been a long time Kyru,” he whispered to the hawk before opening the message. All at the same time Akuru, Saiya, and Ayase and yelled, “WHAT DOES IT SAY???” Ryu looked surprised at the yelling, responded calmly, “its none of your business.” The others all looked disappointed. Ryu smiled, “but just over that cliff,” he pointed, “is my home village, I hope they’ll allow you people in.” Saiya looked nervous at his words, “what do you mean, you ‘hope’?” Ryu and Akuru said at same time, “The ninja village is a dangerous place, they only allow in some certain people, for fear of others discovering their secrets.” Ayase and Saiya looked at each other, then at the boys, “how’d you know that Akuru?” asked Saiya, and Ayase said, “I’m curious to know that answer to that also.” Akuru smiled, as Ryu looked at him bewilderedly, “In my clan it is the highest honor to even visit the ninja village.” “Ah” nodded Ryu. Soon they stood at the top of the hill, overlooking the ninja village. “Wow” gasped Saiya, “It’s amazing.” Ayase and Akuru nodded. Ryu grinned for the first time since they had met him, “Guys, this is my home village.” Saiya hugged him, making Akuru turn somewhat red. Saiya grinned, “You must be really lucky to live in a place like this,” laughed Saiya. Ryu grinned and nodded. Akuru yelled, “YYYYYYAAAAAAAYYYY!!!! I’m finally in the ninja village!!!!!” Ryu smacked him, “No you are not, not yet at least.” Akuru looked disappointed, “We will be there soon right, though?” Ryu nodded solemnly.

Soon they were at the gates of the magnificent village. Saiya looked up, the gates were huge and seemed to go upwards for miles, and miles. Ayase seemed amazed, and Akuru and Ryu were both grinning like little kids. They strode forward, and Ryu rapped his knuckles sharply on the door 3 times, and they came open with a very, very loud creak. Soon Saiya, Ayase, Akuru, and Ryu were all in the village of ninjas. The ninja village seemed disappointing compared to the image Saiya had in her mind. As they looked around, the shabbier it seemed. Ryu however looked like it was the greatest place on earth. Akuru seemed only somewhat disappointed. Ayase seemed so disappointed she had lost all interest. Ryu walked up to the grandest building of them all (that’s not saying much). He smiled, pointing at the building and said, “This is my home.” Saiya grinned, “Wow Ryu-kun, you have the nicest place here. Ryu nodded, “The ninja here use money to buy weapons and such, not expensive flashy stuff.” Saiya was amazed, compared to her former castle life, this was positively boring. Ryu was smiling hugely. Akuru looked at Ryu curiously then asked, “So…this is the infamous ninja village? Seems pretty pathetic to me…” Akuru had voiced exactly what Saiya was thinking, but it seemed too rude to be said aloud. Ryu flushed and muttered, “yes…” Saiya felt badly for poor Ryu, having his friends respond like this. Ryu sighed, “I’m sorry I have to tell you guys this, but I only said your father might be here to trick you into coming with me…” Ayase growled with anger, “RYU! How could you??” her eyes filled with tears. Saiya realized that Ayase had been in love with Ryu. Ryu raised his sword, “if you idiots attack me, I will not hesitate to kill you.” Saiya was shocked, “Ryu, how could you?” Ayase was in tears. Akuru was just standing there, looking rather shocked. Akuru growled in very angry tones, “Ryu…how could you?!?” Saiya growled, raising her ‘2 fanged’ blade, “I swear, if you hurt anyone of us, your dead…” Ryu smirked; “I didn’t want to do this…” he quickly jumped around them, spreading a snowy powder that created a mini snowstorm instantly, that knocked them unconscious. When they awoke they found themselves outside the village. Saiya woke up, drowsily and looked around, “were are we?” Akuru also woke up and said, “I think we’re outside the village.” Ayase sighed, looking miserable. Saiya was sad too she had considered Ryu one of her few real friends here. She smiled slightly as Akuru put his arm around her shoulders and hugged her. Saiya smiled, blushing slightly. Ayase sighed, for she had none to hug her now that Ryu had left them. Back in the ninja village, Ryu was pacing back and forth in his room. He paused to look at the mirror, and then sat down on his bed agitatedly. He took a picture of his ‘good friends’ he had met on that journey then looked closely at the picture copy of Ayase. He sighed. He would miss those eyes; he would probably never see her again. Then he had an idea, what is he left the ninja village never to return, just to be with those so called friends…the funny little human-demon with the sword, that little wolf-human who was always chasing after her like some lovesick puppy…and that wonderful dragon tamer with the brown eyes…he sighed. Like it or not, he was going back to them. He packed his backpack with his best ninja tools and such, put on his armor then set out towards the gate thinking, I am sorry sensei. Soon he arrived at the gate to see half the ninjas in the village standing around looking nervous, and loud screaming coming from behind the gates. He could have laughed. He strode forward through the crowds of people then impatiently opened the village gates and stepped out them, closing them behind him. Saiya was shocked to see Ryu coming out of those gates; worn old backpack over shoulder, picture in hand, and grin on face. Ryu laughed, “Did ya guys miss me?” Ayase ran over and hugged him so tight he blushed and fell to the ground. “I take it I was missed then?” Ayase yelled, “heck yea!!!!” Ryu grinned at Akuru and Saiya, “how about you 2 lovebirds, did you guys miss me?” Saiya and Akuru blushed, and moved away form each other mumbling, “yes…” Ryu laughed. Ayase hugged him tighter. Ryu grinned, “Ayase could you loosen up a little there? I cant breath.” Ayase smiled and hugged a little less tightly.
